I built my computer several months ago and just recently I started experiancing problems. My computer would blue screen frequently and I had problems booting up. Sometimes when I would get to the boot up screen the bar would fill all the way up but then the computer would suddenly restart. To solve the problem I would have to reboot in safe mode and then reboot again. I decided to reinstall windows and ran a hard disk utility that writes zeros to the drive completely erasing all information. After I did this I reinstalled Windows 2000 and it got rid of all of my blue screen problems but I'm still having the boot problem where the computer restarts. I have all my drivers updated and I have installed all of the Windows updates. If anyone can help me I would be very greatful.

System specs:
Windows 2000 Pro
1.4 Ghz Athlon
Epox 8K7A+ mobo
Gefoce 3
Sound Blaster Audigy
256 DDR RAM
ATA 100 60 GB HDD

Whem exactly does it restart? Have you tried removing all of the non-essential hardware?

My old computer did that for a while before I went through and checked all the hardware on it. I found out that it was the memory and the vid card.

They were starting to wear out and acting all funky.

If you have another set of either of those, I would change them first, one at a time, and see if that resolves it. Even if they are older ones, namely the ones you replaced, if you know they are still good and stable, then that will tell you if it is one of those.

Good Luck!

To Be or Not to be... DAMN but that is confusing!
