I am attempting to install Windows 2000 on an:
Asus K7V-RM mobo
Athlon 800 MHz
128 MB RAM
Award bios 6.0
Diamond Viper II Z200 32MB video card
8/4/32A Plextor CD/RW
DVD-ROM

I already have Windows 98 on the first primary partion of 7.7 GB and am attempting to place Windows 2000 on the second primary partition of 4 GB. There is also an extended partition of 7.7GB.

The install gets about halfway through until I get a blue screen with "Hardware Malfunction" message. The Microsoft site says the board supports Win2K. I have checked ASUS and VIA sights as well as searching newsgroups, but I get conflicting responses. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Try tracking down the website of your motherboards manufacturer and download the latest bios update. Windows2000 seems to be very sensitive to any faults in bios when setting up. I recently had trouble with a friends computer similar to what you are having and it wasn't until I updated the bios that I was able to fix the problem. Also remember to go to microsofts website and download windows2000's latest service pack this will contain the latest updates and bugfixes after you get it up and running.
