Does anyone have a Windows 2000 update that works still. I was trying to get this one running as it was the newest I could find and it cannot find the files or something as at the end of the set up, the Windows Update app just loops. Same issue on two different old 600x Thinkpads I am trying to configure with w2k.

Well, what is there to update? Final update, Service Pack 4 with Update Rollup (5.0.2195) was released September 13, 2005. That's 18 years ago.
Microsoft in 2020 announced that it would disable the Windows Update service for SHA-1 endpoints and since Windows 2000 did not get an update for SHA-2, Windows Update Services are no longer available on the OS as of late July 2020. However, as of April 2021, the old updates for Windows 2000 are still available on the Microsoft Update Catalog.
So, if the latest update is in M$ Update Catalog, you're in luck,

If not, tough luck and time to update the OS.
Either newer version of Win or any GNU/Linux distro of your choosing. E.g Lubuntu does well with old/slow hardware (have that on my old laptop).

Except, OP may need a 32 bit distro assuming the Win2k choice is caused by ancient hardware.

In that case, one must try eg. Debian (or a derivative such as Bunsenlabs, Emmabuntus or MX Linux) or OpenSUSE that still have 32 bit versions.

Lubuntu being a Ubuntu based distro only supports 64 bits architecture <downloadLink>
