Windows 7 64-bit installed as 32-bit

Ive been running windows 7 64 bit for over a year. I had some problems with my pc so decided to wipe it and reinstall windows 7. ive done this before and never had a problem. But now it has installed as windows 7 32 bit, and it never installed any drivers either. I managed to get the drivers but still no idea why it installed as 32 bit. I only have 1 win7 disk and 1 code( which have worked before).

The key makes no difference.

The disk is a 32 bit disk. IT is impossible for a 64 bit disk to install as 32 bit. You need a 64 bit disk and re install.

My question is what makes you think it installed as 32 bit?

Again.. I promise you it is impossible for the disk to install as 32 bit. They are worlds apart different. I personally have never seen a disk with the option for one or the other.. and that's dealing with thousands of machines.

What makes you think it installed as 32 bit? If it indeed is a 64 bit disk are you certain your not confused?

Also win 7 comes with basic drivers pre installed. Things like basic graphics etc. Typically the Chipset, Lan etc you will have to install because that varies from pc to pc. You may have used a manufacturer disk prior. Only those would contain the specific drivers for a specific model on the disk itself

Ensure your system tab says your on 32 bit. Like unoriginal said It's impossible for a 64bit disk to install 32bit thats like a skyrim disk installing battlefield. Some versions of windows come with 2 disks a 32bit one and a 64 bit one if you have actually installed a 32bit of the OS you must have 2 disks as all windows install disk have a separate disk.

Ive found my recoverey disk from my current pc and tried the full destructive install but that just fails after a while "wim file missing" i think was the error message.

And i know its currently running as a 32 bit and in system info it says x86 system, im running with 8gb ram but its only showing 2.99gb ram.

Ive found my recoverey disk from my current pc and tried the full destructive install but that just fails after a while "wim file missing" i think was the error message.

And i know its currently running as a 32 bit and in system info it says x86 system, im running with 8gb ram but its only showing 2.99gb ram.

Its not a pirate copy, as it is the recovery disk the pc asked me to make when i first purchased the pc. I think the recovery disk is not working as im using a 64 bit recovery disk to recover a 32 bit OS. I need to to a clean install, but the recoverey doesnt give me that option

Ya at this point my friend I'd find or borrow a 64 bit disk. If you can't find one Digital River typically has them for download. The download isn't hard to find.. It's the key. Thats what people pirate. But as you already said above you have a key so your good to go!

Just find a 64 bit disk. Do a clean install and all is good. Don't forget to update drivers after you do the install. Might be a good idea to download the drivers now.. And put them on a usb flash drive or something for later.

Thats what i ended up doing, got a copy off a friend and used my key. Still didnt install the drivers but i had them on a usb stick.
