Dear Sirs,

Got a problem and been trying y best for two days now to do it on my own but have come to the point to the professionals in to help me (yes you guys and gals) 😉

I have recently purchased a Internal System Speaker from e-bay link:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230997104800?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Despite that its a Dell component and has a 5 pin connector but only uses four, if I used a correct four pin connector (that I have as spares) and just used the RED and Black leads the seller stated it would work on my motherboard.

So on its arrival, I did what the seller stated and made sure from Dell's website that RED lead is 5v and Black is Ground. The pin-out of the Dell's D9899 Internal System Speaker is the following:

pin 1 - red wire - P5V_IN
pin 2 - white wire - SPK_DET
pin 3 - black wire - GND
pin 4 - not connected
pin 5 - green wire - AUD_MONO

I have a AsRock 775I65G R3.0 motherboard link:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/775i65G%20R3.0/

AsRock's user guide shows the pin-out as:

pin 1 - red wire => +5v
pin 2 - Dummy
pin 3 - Dummy
pin 4 - black wire => Ground

So I had a four pin connector so I just used the RED and Black, but following installation, nothing has happened no sound/bleeps, except Device Manager does recognise the device in System Devices, as a 'System Speaker', but shows the error "No drivers are installed for this device.". So here's my problem I have tried all that I can think of to get a driver, but can not find one for it to operate.

I have a Creative Labs PCI and also a HIS HD 4670 ICEQ 1 GB DDR3 GRAPHICS CARD that I am using the HDMI out for both picture and sound.

So here's my problem explained the best I can......

I trust that someone somewhere on here will know what I have done or not done correctly and easy to fix, so thank you in advance.

If you need any more info, please ask.

Great and kind regards, Jon

That speaker is for specific laptop models and is the sound (music, etc.) speaker not just a bios driven speaker for beep codes. Just get a cheap two wire piezoelectric like THIS, although note that is a package of 30 for £5. Perhaps a local electronic shop will have one.

Thank you for your response I think it is for both BIOS and Windows.

I don't know, just want it to work on my Mini Tower......

Come on guys, does some on have a standard, audio/system speaker driver or system set-up file to get it to work for me, Pppppplease.

Regards, Jon

It is both for the Dell models that support that arrangement and that model speaker, but your mini tower does not, so no if you already tried just the red and black leads and it didn't work, buy a real bios speaker.

Drivers--not unless you have one of the Dell models that uses it. Sorry but wanting it to work doesn't help.

Standard motherboard bios speakers do not have drivers, the function is built into the bios to give you troubleshooting information prior to an OS boot, where drivers for Dell would then dual purpose the speaker as a standard audio speaker.

Thank you for the replies, so are you saying the item I have purchased will not work as it is a four pin wired speaker, but the two pin from Amazon will? If the one I have will not work please can you tell why?

Thank again, Jon

Yes, I am saying that a standard two pin speaker will work like the one I linked.

The one that you have does not work, I can only assume that the circuitry that allows it to function in a Dell keeps it from working as only a simple bios speaker on a machine that is not one of the Dell models that it is made for.

Reinstalled win7 64bit on HP pavilion dv8010 and is (supposedly) incompatible. Upon first use, sound, graphics everything fine except I missed the quick buttons on the keyboard. then was missing a keyboard filter. now the sound drivers aren't working and two "unknown" PCI drivers are not found. I went to system configuration information page and found three strange things. I have a "bowser" helper driver. The file system drivers for sound (audio) are disabled. Next I will go to the drivers and set for compatibility to work with win7 (if available). Otherwise am asking for advice too. good wishes

Hi Jon, I also have a similar situation which I let rest for a month or more. I have a HP dv8010 (dv8000 series) built for WinXP - maybe Win98 not exactly certain but all indications are XP). Some years ago I pirated Vista using a disk I had from my own laptop which had become dysfunctional so the key was valid in that I owned it anyway. I purchased a Family pack of Windows 7 a few years ago so installed it onto the laptop getting a message (forgot what) and then wiped entirely losing the partitions and had to begin again. I did succeed in getting it right other than the sound. It has a speaker and powered by AMD but in tweaking it to get sound found it changed from: (cited: Driver updates and support stopped at ATI Catalyst 13.1 for video cards with support up to DirectX 10.) and (cited: Renamed AMD Catalyst with the merger of ATI and AMD.) That there were some later releases for these operating systems, including and up to a Windows Me build of Catalyst 6.2 released on Feb 9, 2006 and whatever versions are listed if you needed the history, Wikipedia has it but my point is the merger of ATI and AMD and the [influence of] something to do with Intel. There is a Northbridge and a Southbridge. The specific operations of each are also referenced in Wikipedia and I don't include for space here. Today I am ramping up to correct the issue with the knowledge I've gathered, whew, and try once again to get sound. It is in the BIOS yes but the "chipset" is the primary culprit (in my opinion) and the relationship between North and South. I am using HWiNFO (freeware) to copy from my desktop HP Win8.1 64bit to the HP laptop Win7 64bit. You can find more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=ati+amd+history&title=Special%3ASearch which can guide you further. I see you posted back in September but since I've still not resolved my issue (but I closed the lid for some time), and certain there are others' with similar issues, hopefully this post may save another some time. So I conclude with a request that should anyone else have resolved this matter, please post your solution. Smiles 4 Miles, VMD
