Windows 7 is freezing. I have had it freeze while watching youtube. It freezes mostly right after I have logged in and its loading the startup programs. It is freezing all the time when I run Starcraft 2. Starcraft 2 can be in campaign mode, multiplayer mode, or just in the menue and it will freeze. The only way out of it is a hard reset in any of the cases. Usually what happens is I run starcraft 2 and it freezes about 5 to 10 mins in. I do a hard reset and then it freezes after login when it is loading up. Then I do another hard reset and it runs fine again.... well until i run starcraft 2 or it just decides to freeze on me. My keyboard's lcd screen shows that one of the cores of my cpu maxes out everytime it freezes while the other 3 cores are running normally or not at all. I am thinking its a windows problem or a hardware problem and not a problem with starcraft 2. It just happens with starcraft 2 100% of the time. I have updated all of my drivers. Win 7 is up to date. all virus software is up to date and runs weekly. I have tried reinstalling sc2... still freezes. It has been doing this since Saturday. The one change i made was I installed an additional 500gb wd blue hdd for more backup space. Please any help or ideas you could give me would be grately apreciated.

specs:
win 7 64bit
intel ssd 75gb
gtx 470
rampage 2 extreme mobo
intel i7 920 @ 4ghz (water cooled)
6gb corsair ram
HDDs: WD 500gb, WD 250gb, WD 500gb blue(new one)
850w thermaltake ps

well the first time it WAS the problem. it was alot more dramatic. I could only boot into safe mode the first time for the computer to work correctly. I put in my old video card (8800gts) and everything worked fine. So, i rma the gtx 470 and 6 mos later i am having freezing issues. this time it just freezing during games. last time the video was so buggy it would be switching back and forth of the video quality on the fly.

So i am thinking i have to buy a new graphics card and it won't be asus.

do you think its the mobo maybe? I have no clue at this point other than it froze while runing that gpu program so there for its the gpu? I really can't imagine it being the powersupply as nothing is telling me that its the psu. I guess it could be that but 850w is way more than enough to run my computer.

**it happens sometimes bro...
I've been there and I feel you pain.
just go out and buy one and then return it, keep your receipt...
instead of breaking down both systems, just use the 'temporary' psu..
and if it's a good psu and it works then just keep it if that's your problem...
IMO.

kernel boot....
you never mentioned that.!

Let’s put the computer in a clean boot state and troubleshoot the issue.

Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or start-up items are causing the issue.
If you find the culprit program then check with the program manufacturer for updates or reinstall the same.

a format and clean install of OS and software might be the final answer..

That Corsair would be comparable to what you currently have, only a little better quality than the TT. If you want a beefier one, check out the deal on this Kingwin (promo code expires on the 19th).

This would be a downgrade from the Corsair that was suggested above.
