Windows 7, 8, or 8.1?

So I am building a gaming computer but not quite sure which OS to use. I heard that Windows 7 has the most games available, yet quite a few of my friends are using Windows 8. And whats the difference between Windows 8 and 8.1. I saw that the twi were being sold separately. Is one better than the other?

If it matters, I plan on buying a 64-bit version (Probably OEM).

Personal preference. Anything that plays in Win7 will almost assuredly play in Win8/8.1

8.1 is basically the service pack 1 of Win8. Some added enhancements.

If you going to purchase OS I would buy win7 which is cheaper and wait for win 9 to come out. Up to you tho.

Do you know if when Threshold comes out, I will need to upgrade to Windows 8 before Windows 9 or will I be able to upgrade straight from Windows 7 to 9
