Ive just got a skylake CPU, im using it on my system that already has windows 7 installed, but of course the usb ports arent working. I was wondering what i would have to download to get them going. everything i have looked up online only talks about slipping the xHCI drivers into a windows 7 iso and itll work like that, but nothing says how to get it going when you already have the windows 7 operating system. id preferably like to not have to install it all over again.

Try USB on legacy if its in the BIOS. Whats the mobo?

Did the ports work before??

If they did, it sounds similar to the other PC here that had Win7. I think it was after an update. But it's not a Skylake, it's socket 775

I could boot into Win7 but that was it. The cursor got stuck in the middle of the screen, and like you no ports worked. The day before, everything was fine.

No matter what I tried I couldnt get the mouse or anything to work (like flash drives)

So I decided to install Win10. And everything works fine. My flatmate is using it now

I cant get into the device manager to figure it out. Ive got a CD that has all the drivers for my motherboard and all, but I literally cant do anything on it right now since the keyboard/mouse wont work. Even enabling PS/2 emulation in the bios, does nothing to make the usb ports work

Leagcy usb support and emulation were both enabled in bios but to no avail, mobo is ASRock z170M itx/ac

the user manual carries instructions on how to do a fresh install with the right drivers, but nothing about what happens when you've already got the OS installed.

yeah, i figured i would probably end up just having to do a fresh install, from searching around for answers for hours, most people are saying its better getting windows 10 anyway, to make full use of the features and what not.
thanks for your help :)
