windows 7 auto installs drivers when told not to

i got my windows 7 set to not insall drivers so i can install them myself but when i go to update a driver windows seems to reinstall it when its updating causin a failed update any idea how to fix this annoyin problem

Sounds like you are uninstalling the existing driver before updating it.

It's usually okay with most driver updates to install them without removing the existing one, unless directed otherwise on the download page or by the driver setup routine.

That should stop Windows interfering.
