Windows 7 backup

My computer never can complete a image backup even though I have plenty of room on my external drive. I get the message "Windows Backup did not complete successfully"

Ohhhh. Ok Pl provide the error code. Pl connect your external drive on usb 2.0 port and try to run backup. Also check the data cable of the external drive for some times it is faulty and it is hard to detect this thing.

Pl give system specs.
