windows 7 boot disk

im building a gaming desk top and i had a windows 7 100% stock back up from a laptop i had a year or so ago can i use this on my new desk top or do i have to buy windows again?

If this is a system builder
windows DVD it's licence is not transferable

If it is a recovery DVD made by using a recovery disk builder it will only activate on a system with the same motherboard as the laptop

Multiple problems with this:

-Assuming "100% stock backup" means a 'copy' of the OS on the laptop, that will not with the new desktop hardware
-1 license, 1 PC at a time. If it were to work, now you're left with a laptop with no OS license
-If that laptop OS was preinstalled, that is licensed to that motherboard only. It will not activate on the new desktop
