windows 7 boot manager at startup

windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

i have it installed on 2 different hard drives. how do i get the boot loader to come up at startup so i can pick which hard drive i want to boot off of?

Your motherboard has a specific key to invoke the boot order choice on startup. On mine (Gigabyte), it is F12.

its the way its set.

there is a boot loader on each hard drive but it only has one entry in.


what you need to do is look in bios to see what hdd it is set to bootfrom then modify that hdd's bootloader.


install a program called easybcd.

click on new entry

then select the hdd that the other os is on

If you want to be able to choose which OS to boot into then:

1) Open System by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.

2) Click Advanced System Settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3) Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.

4) Under System startup, in the Default operating system list, click the operating system that you want to use when you turn on or restart your computer.

NOTE: If you only see one operating system then a good tool I use is EasyBCD (Here is the free version - the download link may be confusing to find.. it is the big link that says DOWNLOAD with an arrow next to it with the text "OR ADD TO DOWNLOAD BASKET) :

You can rename each entry so you can tell which one is which.

before i reformatted all my hard drives, when i booted up, I would go to a black screen that said 'windows boot loader. It listed 3 windows 7 installation. with 1 highlighted. I had a few seconds to manually select another one?

This is quite an old one, but I need a solution to that very last problem guesseso presented: how on system startup, you automatically get that black screen for windows boot loader?
