Basically, my computer had a huge issue where somehow some boot data went missing and the computer would not boot. When I bought the computer, the craigslist guy didn't give me any discs so I just made a restore disc using my brother's Windows 7 laptop. I did that and my computer worked again. Using that restore disc, I used System Restore to fix the boot issue.

There's an issue, though. My computer says that the windows 7 installation is not genuine. The software was genuine windows 7 before I did a system restore. Now, it says that the windows 7 ultimate is invalid. After talking to a Microsoft support agent, they didn't give me much help but say that the software may have been counterfeit.

Can anyone please help me try to figure out if it's possible to fix this?

Thanks,
Garneth

First compare your key to your brothers key. Probably the same. If so???
Your best option at this point is to contact the seller and see if you can get a key from them.
They should provide you with a key if they are a reputable dealer.
If this is not an option then you will have to buy another key or copy for windows and report the seller to microsoft and the police.
Reportin is a slight hassle but it keeps the person from doing the same thing to someone else

If you are a college student you can get a good discount. You will need an .edu email account or purchase it at the college store.
If not you can buy an OEM copy cheaper than a retail version if money is tight.
Be aware that the OEM version is only good for the computer you install it on. It can not be reused on another computer when you upgrade.
