Hello,
Bought Call of Duty World at War on steam a few days ago and have been having a lot of trouble trying to play. The game crashes at start up. I have tried a few fixes like starting up in compatability mode and changing the sound to 44100 and 48k but they dont work. Occasionally when I play around enough it will work but next time I try to play it is back to crashing.

Does it just not start? For example you launch the game you get a black screen it looks like it might run and then you get desk top? Or does it launch and start but crash with some type of error message when you try to start a mission?

I launch the game and it looks like it might run for a few seconds but then goes back to the desktop. I tried with a microphone and no success. My system specs are:
Quad core q8200
msi intel p43 chipset
6gb ddr2
ati 4850
550w power
windows 7 - 64bit

Is it a legit install from the orginal DVD, or from steam? Or is it a cracked copy. Often times the cracked .exes dont work well.

If it is from steam i would verify game cache.

You can also try to delete the game configmp.cfg and configsp.cfg.
When you lauch the game it will recreate them
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles\playername

I got it ages ago when it first came out so it's just a store bought copy. Actually it's the special edition one if that makes any difference. I'll try deleting the configs but will that screw with any of my settings or profiles?

uninstall the game and delete local content... run ccleaner to clean out the registry.
then load up steam again and click install.
the game will then be patched to the proper version. when you start go straight to options and select optomized then increase the screen siz to your monitors native level. save and start the game it should then run flawlessly...
if it doesnt open up the event viewer in ctrl pannel/admintools/event viewer and check the aplications log. see if theres an error report for the game if so post it... if not look in system if the errors there then its likely you have a driver issue...
