[SOLVED] Windows 7, can I reinstall with a boot/recovery disc

Hello. I apologize if this question has been answered many times. I’m upgrading my motherboard/cpu and I have windows 7 professional OEM. after speaking with two reps from Microsoft they said I am absolutely able to use the key again to reinstall windows but can not obtain the ISO files to create a flash drive to reinstall, I have to get a recovery disc. I know you all know your stuff so my question is after installing my hardware, am I able to really use the recovery disc to reinstall windows on my new motherboard/cpu? Thanks for your help.

Why can't you use the the .ISO to make a flash drive installer? Why can't you burn the .ISO to a disk? No optical drive?

Is this a pre-built PC, and OEM like Dell, HP, etc?

microsoft wont provide iso for OEM edition of win 7, your OEM should provide it (called recovery disc)

Actually, you can get an ISO from MS for Win7 if you have a legit product key. Done it myself a few times.

Where did the original OS come from?

If it is an OEM license, you'll have to get it from your manufacturer.
And, that OEM license cannot be transferred to different hardware.

If it is NOT an OEM license, you can get the ISO direct from Microsoft.

And you can (probably) transfer it to new hardware.

if he has SLP key (which he probably has since ms told him no iso for him), then this website would says same stuff about contacting oem vendor

good point. That's why I later asked the OP if it was an OEM like Dell, HP, etc.

if he has this kind of key, then theres no point downloading iso from 3rd party, as it wont activate even with key from COA sticker, mainboard change would invalidate that key

tbh u couldd get win10, it will work just fine without any key (no 30 day trial as it used to be) just a watermark in lower right corner

If the OP was going to get his Win7 installed and running on the new system, I was going to suggest he do a (still) free upgrade to W10. Win 7 only has another year before MS stops security updates. I've slowly been (free) updating my machines from 7 to 10. Got one left with 7.

Yep.
Upgrade the current system to Win 10, and then you can transfer that to new hardware.
