Hello,
i am currently running ubuntu and am trying to switch to windows 7 ultimate, however im getting an error that the cd dvd driver cannot be found, how do i resolve this? ive tried multiple different things from answers to other forums and am still coming to a dead end and am getting extremely frustrated. HELP!!

set your HD controlle to IDE or find the cd with the controller driver needed. If the hdd controller is set to AHCI (for sata hdd) or the hdd is connected to third party controller, then the installation need to talk to the controller and it need the drivers.

If you add more info on your hardware, then you'll get more precise answer.

It is not an optical drive issue, it is that the installation CANNOT FIND THE RIGHT SATA CONTROLLER DRIVER.

If your SATA controller is set to AHCI or RAID, the installation needs the right drivers. It should be on a cd or a DVD that came with the motherboard. That why it ask for a CD DVD driver(disk). If you don't have the driver disk, then go into BIOS and set controller mode to PATA or IDE or anything else than AHCI or RAID

The computer does not have any SATA controller. It has the hard disk connected to the primary IDE channel as master. The NEC DVD + RW drive is connected to the secondary IDE channel as master. Windows 7 install boots up just fine. Starts to load windows 7 then halts with a message that a required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, Please insert it now.

I do not care id the DVD drive no longer functions as a DVD burner. I just want to load Windows 7 to the computer.

OK now is the truth. This is the solution.

I assume all of you is using USB drive to install.

When Windows is asking for driver, just click Cancel. You will be brought back to the welcome screen. At the welcome screen, remove your USB drive, insert it back to DIFFERENT USB PORT. Click Install Now again. The installation process will be like usual.

This problem happened to all new version of updated Windows 7 installer. I think, it is due to failure of Windows installer to remain its detection to the USB drive. It lost the connection, and became confused, don't know where to find the USB drive it used to read before.

When we re-insert the USB drive, Windows installer will detect the USB drive back, and continue like usual.

Good luck and cheers! TQ.

Hi,

Open system and insure the DVD device is set a Master or slave depending on how you have it installed. (Windows 7 does not like CABLE SELECT).

Normally that will allow Windows 7 to see your DVD. If this does not work, use the manual install method.

Also insure the dvd device is shown in the bios.

Watch carefully on boot, and insure the boot sequence shows the dvd device.

I have found once in a while, since Win 95, totally removed the device, boot , normally. wait 3 min. shutdown, install device insuring the cable matches the proper selection on the device. (do not use cable select) either master or slave. boot an enjoy you DVD device. get more information and help........ http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-185843-windows-7-install-cannot-find-dvd-driver hope this helps you.
