today my new Kingston SSD arrived and I want to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on it!Problem is my Internet sucks and I also have a lot of files that I don't wanna lose such as sony vegas projects and stuff! Question is how can I uninstall windows 7 of my HDD and turn it into an "external hard drive" type of thing so I don't lose any of my files :)
Thanks in advance

Edit: I just tried installing windows 7 on my SSD and as I boot my windows 7 setup it shows "No drives were found. mass media storage something"

Can you help me?

Solution

After you backup, install the SSD, you can try...
First, make a complete backup of your existing system on an external hard disk. Then disconnect the old hard drive. Connect the new SSD to SATA 0 (highest priority). Go ahead and fresh install Win 7 on the SSD.

After that make a complete backup on an ext. hard drive.

Then connect the old hard drive to the computer and copy all the files you need over to an external hard drive. Then format the old hard drive NTFS. Use it as another external hard drive.

I was actually thinking of a way that wouldn't require a third drive since I don't have one and in reality just uninstall windows 7 but at the same time uninstall only the main components without losing data. Is it possible?

After you backup, install the SSD, you can try deleting windows files from the old hard disk. After that, download and run "CCLEANER" on the old drive. This will give you what you want.
