Windows 7 initialize disk sas

ok im in disk management trying to initialize a sas hard drive i can see it there at the bottom

theres the 2 spots to click the disk 1 spot and the unallocated spot

i click the disk one stop and i see 4 grayed out things and 5 things i can click none of then are initialize or format
they are as listed

grayed out ones i cant click

New spanned volume
New striped volume
New mirrored volume
New RAID-5 volume


now the ones i can click are as fallows


Convert to dynamic disk
Convert to GPT disk
Offline
Properties
Help

now if i click the unallocated spot it says all the same ones grayed out

New spanned volume
New striped volume
New mirrored volume
New RAID-5 volume

then the ones i can click are

New simple volume
Properties
Help






i just want to use my hard drive its a seagate cheetah 15.6k rpm hard drive i have a sas controller card to run it and it shows it in device manager as its working properly


plzz anyone help me get this thing working so i can use it

Ok, sounds like this the only drive in the machine? if so, the first partition is your OS and rest is unallocated. Simply click New simple volume in the unallocated portion and format this and you'll have a new drive letter appear, a seperate drive for your data. the first partition was setup when u/whoever installed Windows most likely.

Hi there,
Before you partition and format the unallocated space on this HDD, how is the first section of this drive set up and how big is the HDD.

If Win-7 was installed, there should be a "system reserved" 100 MB partition listed first, then your Active partition containing your OS.
That sholuld be at least 40 GB for Win-7. You can adjust the active partition size in disk management depending if you are going to store program data or files on it, or just the OS. Once that is done, follow blackmancer's instructions to format the unallocated space.

Remember that creating another partition (s) on Drive 0 gives you a separate space to strore data, it does Not give you a separate physical drive, and since all your OS and data are on the same drive, all will be lost if that drive goes bad, unless you back it up to a separate physical HDD.

i have a main hard drive thats 1 tb and the OS is on that one and it has that system reserved . i can show u a pic of what im talking about if i can add pic on here so u can see it


this drive im trying to get to work is a sas drive running through a controller card and its only 148 gb. i have tried unplugging the 1 tb drive and installing windows 7 onto the 148 gb drive but it could not find it when it was installing

well seance my OS was not on that drive i did what u said and i see it now thank u

If you are going to try to install Win-7 on the SAS Cheetah as your primary active drive, (nice size for win-7) disconnect the 1TB HDD from the MB. Set your DVD as first boot device. Then after the welcome screen, time language keyboard screen, eula screen, choose custom install. If there are any partitions on the Cheetah, delete them so you have just unallocated space. You can dial in a partition size for the OS partition or use the whole 148GB. Then win-7 will place the "system reserved" partition first, then your OS partition. Follow the instructions and once Win-7 is running, you can adjust the OS partition size if you want in disk management. Remember when you delete any partitions, you lose all data in that partition. After installation, set the cheetah as the first boot device. You can then reattach the standard HDD on a later separate SATA connector to use for data storage.

so i have to do the opposite of what i just did to install windows on it cause i tried installing on it already like how it was before i did what u just told me to do
when it was unallocated space and it was doing the install thing and wanted me to select a drive to install to and it was not there i was going to try it how it is now just unplug the 1 TB
