Hello!

So i just have installed windows 7 on WD5000aaks (7200RPM, 500GB) X2 in RAID0
BUT i didnt have to load any RAID drivers in the setup since my HDD was already listed there.

And after i clicked next created an extra 100MB partition for System files! *facepalm*

The question is will RAID work after Windows Setup made this extra 100mb partition? Do i have to reinstall my windows with proper RAID driver or sth?

Btw i have AMD Raid option utility 2008!

Thanks!

As long as your drives were configured as a raid array before doing the windows setup your fine, one very easy way to check since you're using RAID 0, just check the size of your drive under "My computer" it's it's close to 1 Tb then everything is fine.

The drive array should be recognized as a single drive by windows, you can also check under Disk Management to validate this.

The system partition is hidden, so it won't show up as a drive letter in Windows. As long as you see a single 1TB drive in windows, you're fine. You won't have to load any RAID drivers during Windows setup if the RAID controller in your system is natively supported by Windows 7.

If Its A Boot Drive (Yes, Even A RAID) That 100MB partition is Normal (Has Been Since The Days Of Windows95 On FAT32 Its The MBR (Master Boot Record) And Allocation Table It Wont Have A Drive Letter And IS Requred

And That Windows Vista And 7 System Rating Is A General Guideline, Not Exact And Actually Means Little And Is Not An Exact Science

If you click "next" on the window that asks you to select a drive/partition, and there are no partitions, windows gives a message that an additional system partition will be created and is required, and you click "okay" and setup starts. It doesn't actually show you the partition, but it's there, trust me. Everyone has one, it's part of the OS.

Now back to the question at hand, you say your system is the same speed as it was before. Does windows show a 1TB drive C, or does it show two 500gb drives?

it shows 900GB which is great.

BUT every time i boot my machine AMD option rom 2008 comes up and starts searching for drivers.
and then a white - sign just blinks there for 30 sec!!

any ideas? :S
also ive set it to use quad cores to boot but its still slower than if i havent raid and it used 4 cores!

You might have empty SATA channels enabled as RAID devices, or you might have one of the channels that is going to a DVD drive enabled as RAID, which will sometimes make the RAID BIOS act goofy.

EDIT:

my friend had NO message box that Windows will create another partition for sys files came up AT ALL, which is weird.

I thought this was all normal since it created the Extra partition on the other 5000AAKS before messing with RAID.

little help?

Is it OK to leave it like that? or should i reformat and do this again with proper drivers?
