I have an older PC that is running Windows 7 64 bit home premium upgrade version that i purchased on the day it was released.

I also have a new PC that is running Windows 7 64 bit SP1 home premium.

Both PCs were built by myself and both copies of Windows were purchased.

I need to re-install Windows 7 on my old PC for a SSD upgrade. Can I use the SP1 version I own and use the old serial number when I do this?

I would like to save time on installing XP first then windows 7 if I can. Also I would like to save time on all the updates.

I see what you're saying... You can't install Windows 7 Upgrade on a blank drive.. it has to first detect a previous O/S... But to answer your question... NO, you can't do that... serials are locked onto the versions of Windows you have... So the serial for an OEM or Upgrade version of Windows will not work on a full version of Windows and vice verse... as far as I know...

Your best best is to just bite the bullet and install Windows XP again on your old computer with the new SSD... then boot up the Windows 7 DVD and install your Windows 7 again on to that.. All you have to do is go to Advance Options during the install and do a quick format to erase XP before you reinstall Windows 7.. It will only add about 10 min. time... no...

Make sure before you get started... you go into BIOS and change from IDE to AHCI so your SSD will have better performance.
