Windows 7 installation problem

Recently built a new computer and bought windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. When i intalled by disc at first it took days and froze at the last step of installation, then after i tried resolving the problem by trying a usb install, it gave me the blue screen after the "windows is starting up" screen. I never got to install any operating system because of this frequent problem. Specs: Cpu: AMD phenom ll x6, Mob: asrock 990fx extreme3, hard drive: 1tb

Try running memtest86+ which has it's own os to check for basic functioning of the hardware.
