Hi all,

trying to help a friend fix their computer. their windows wont load...

the laptop is an acer aspire 7741-6445

model no: ms2309

my friend lost their installation cd. (we think)

ive tried using the rocovery partition and it fails saying failed to load the image or something.

ive tried download windows 7 from microsoft and entered my cd key and it said unable to supply with windows 7 iso because my windows came pre installed (i think thats what it said)

i tried download windows 7 iso from cnet or something and had it installed like 60% expanding files then it said i dont have all the required files..

i really dont want to pay the 19.99 for the acer recovery cd

is that my only option or what? does anyone have a windows 7 home premium iso?

64 bit or 32 bit would work.. umm digital river doesnt seem to work either

thanks in advance

Sorry, but no. That's an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) version. Whoever built the system (Acer in your case) is the OEM and your only support for Windows is through them.

You can make a Win 7 Home Premium Recovery disk from ANY computer with Win 7 Home Premium it does not have to be from Acer and it will only cost you the price of the disk.

Note! When you have issues with OEM keys it means "Pick up the phone and call Microsoft" They will verify that you have a legitimate Key sticker, simple tell them you are replacing the hard drive.

i thought wolf said they stopped supporting oem version..

and from what i read,, it appears for acer u have to have windows operational then run the acer program to be able to burn windows to a cd/dvd/usb.

Microsoft does not provide technical support for OEM versions of Windows. For instance, if you're constantly getting BSODs and you have a retail version of Windows, you can contact Microsoft and they'll assist you. If you have an OEM version of Windows and you contact Microsoft, they'll tell you to contact whomever built the system. In your case, that would be Acer.

Microsoft does require you to activate your copy of Windows whether it's retail or OEM.

Actually yes it does otherwise you would never get off the "Trial" Period" that you get with all installs. If a Key has already been register sometimes it will get rejected, that is when you need to pick up the phone and prove you have a valid sticker.

?????

I said every version of Windows 7 (both OEM and Retail) need to be activated. If your product key has already been used, then yes. You are likely required to pick up a phone and contact Microsoft.

You're talking about activation. I'm talking about actual Technical Support. If you are having a problem with your computer and it is related to the previously activated OS, if you are running an OEM version (like what you'd get if you purchased your computer from Acer), Microsoft will NOT provide you with any technical support. You have to go through your system builder (in this case, Acer)

Only if you purchased. installed, and activated a Retail version of Windows will Microsoft give you any technical support.
