Just installed an evo 212 cpu cooler as well as replaced a 2tb seagate sshd with a 4tb hdd. After I hooked everything back up I tried to boot and got bootmgr missing. I put the 2gb seagate back in (though my os is installed on a 128gb samsung 850 ssd), tried to boot, and got the same message. I checked bios to make sure it was booting from the ssd first (which it was) and then proceded to try and repair with a windows 10 flash drive that I had made. I wouldnt mind just reinstalling as everything I need is on an external drive but I upgraded my windows 7 ultimate to windows 10 ultimate during the free period and I would like to keep windows 10. Also, my key is for a 32 bit os but I was able to install a 64 bit windows 7 and use that key to activate it (then upgrade to windows 10 64 bit). If I reinstalled windows 10 could I still use that code to activate it or am I screwed?

(Sorry for the sloppiness. I am at work in the bathroom on my phone, lol)

Solution
If you linked it to a Microsoft Account it will activate when you enter your Microsoft Account info. Windows 7 license is no longer valid you have to install 10.

If it wasn't linked to Microsoft Account you may need to call them to activate.

Setup a Microsoft Account and link your current PC to it , then backup whatever you want to save and perform a clean install on your new setup and activate it with your Microsoft account from within windows. Skip the key entry during setup and activate it from within windows with the registered Microsoft Account.

If you reinstall the same version of windows 10 that was on there, you don't need a key, just click "skip this step" when it asks you for a key, then once its online it should self activate, you don't have a 10 key.

it will self activate once the computer is back on the internet after the install. the Windows media creation tool now just installs a universal windows 10 install which will setup whichever edition of windows you have. windows 10 doesn't have an "ultimate" edition so you were given windows 10 pro when you upgraded from windows 7 unltimite
