Windows 7 looks washed out

Hi everyone, please read this all VERY carefully, as this is NOT a display issue but purely a Windows 7 issue.

The Windows colors look totally washed grey when I use Windows explorer (use folders) and use internet explorer. The desktop colors look fine, movies are awesome and all games look amazing.

Here is what happens:
1) Desktop looks beautiful, all fullscreen programs also look perfect
2) I open up any folder or use internet explorer and suddenly EVERYTHING becomes washed out and grey.
3) If I minimize to the desktop, all the washed out colors go away and everything looks perfect again

What the hell is going on? I've connected my laptop, TV's and projectors to ten billion things and this has never happened.

---What is happening precisely:

I have games and Steam open and it doesn't affect them, neither movies or anything at all that isn't directly related to Windows menus and Internet Explorer. Only Windows Explorer menus and Internet Explorer. I mean everything becomes eye wateringly grey.

The desktop is only affected when menus are not minimized, in which case the desktop also becomes grey. Also, pictures in my pictures folder are really grey but then when I watch them as a slide show the greyness goes away again. What in the heck in going on? What I don't understand is why it is suddenly happening.

I am using an Optoma HD141X projector.

Hi, thanks for that suggestion. That was the first thing I did. Nothing changed. I did all that you said. I have games and Steam open and it doesn't affect them, only Windows Explorer menus and Internet Explorer. I mean it's eye wateringly grey. The desktop is only affected when menus are not minimized, in which case the desktop also becomes grey. Also, pictures and such in my pictures folder are really grey but then when I watch them as a slide show the greyness goes away again. What in the heck in going on?

Just bought the projector today. Brand new. Everything is perfect. I also have this connected to an HDTV and also my laptop itself is not experiencing this problem

I realized what was happening sort of. It's the projector. It must be a contrast issue. When I changed internet explorer's background color to a darker color all the washed out bars went away. I will have to contact Optoma support to see if there's a fix. Whenever there's some black near bright colors everything is fine, but for some reason when there is a lot of white on the screen it gets washed out
