Here is a link to a youtube video I uploaded of my problem:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__z6vCesW3k&feature=youtu.be

As you can see in the video, the Windows 7 boot-up music partially plays, you hear a strange buzzing noise, and then the rest of the music. During the buzzing my computer is frozen (mouse doesn't respond, etc.) Afterwards, however, my PC seems totally normal. There are no problems with audio with my speakers or my headphones. I have double checked that my drivers are up to date. I have also tried a clean install of windows.

Here are my specs:

ASUS Sabertooth Z87
Intel 4770k (cooled by Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO)
NVIDIA GTX 680
Gskill Ram (8GB)
850W Thermaltake power supply

The sound is coming from my monitors speakers in the video, but this also happens when i have my headphones setup. Plus i dont have an issue with any other sounds (music, games, etc.)

I tried booting without any usb devices pluged in, still have the same issue

thats means your windows version maybe missing some files..if you want to be really sure where the problems comes from...try another windows

Wouldnt reinstalling windows have fixed any problems with OS files?

not always , in rare cases it happens specially when the os version is broken or having problem during installation progress

When I reinstalled windows, I formatted my SDD (using the windows setup on my CD) is there a better way to completely wipe the drive? to ensure that there are no errors with the OS files? I did discover that there is an unused portion of my primary drive, not sure if this is relevant or not. Heres a screenshot:

this is normal and nothing wrong with it..try your monitor in other pc this will help alot..if the problem doesn`t happen with the other pc then i have no doubt that the problem is with your windows cd or version

So the buzzing noise isnt anything to worry about?

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the exact same problem. your youtube vid. is exactly how mine sounds...since this was August, has or did it "fix" itself? I am a little worried, because this is a brand new PC. Looks like we have same motherboard or close, ie. ASUS Z87 Pro
Socket LGA 1150 ATX Intel Motherboard, and I have windows 7 Pro...any help, greatly appreciated

I didn't realize you posted here as well as well as on youtube but I'll post the same thing here just to be sure you and anybody else who's looking see it:

I wasn't able to figure out the cause of the problem. I tried re-installing windows but that didn't solve the issue. I actually did get it to go away when I installed windows on my secondary HDD (I wanted to see if my SSD was the problem) but when I bought a new SSD and installed windows on that, the problem returned. I ended up just disabling the windows start-up sound which kind of just masks the problem. Your comment however has sparked an idea I don't know why I didn't think of. The SATA III port. It's possible that for some reason, the SATA III port on my (and your) motherboard is bad. Another cause could be the cable itself. I will replace the cable and try a different port and see if that fixes the issue. I will comment here again when I've done so. In the mean time you could disable the windows start-up sound. Instructions can be found here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/disable-startup-sound/d8d5a1ec-b4aa-4e9b-ae1b-1aaa3c99ff7e
