Windows 7 not detecting hard drive on clean install

Hello all,

I am attempting to format my hard drive using a bootable version of Windows 7 with a USB. When I get to the part where I need to select the drive there are no drives shown. I am able to find the drive in BIOS and in disk management when I start my current version of Windows.

When I am in BIOS I see the USB listed twice. Once on its own and again listed under the solid state. If I try to launch from the USB listed on its own my screen flashes and I am on the same BIOS screen. If I select the USB listed under the SSD it does the normal "loading Windows files" and other steps until I cannot find a drive.

I have tried shift+f10 while in the Windows installation setup and when I type "diskpart" and "list disk" the only drive shown is the USB.

My mobo is an ASUS Z97-A ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97-A.

Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. I will continue to actively look for solutions as well and if I find a fix I will post it here.

Thanks

1. That ASUS board has been around for awhile so I suspect you were working with a Win 7 bootable OS with that MB in the not-too-distant past. So if that is so, what happened that requires you to install the Win 7 OS on a HDD? A new HDD? What happened with the previous system that you require a fresh-install of the OS? A previous failed OS?

2. You mention you're using a "bootable version of Windows 7 with a USB". Presumably the "USB" refers to a flash drive. Is this a reference to the installation media containing the Win 7 OS Setup files - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 ? Is that what you're using?

3. You're reasonably certain you're dealing with a non-defective HDD? You've checked it out with a HDD...

3. You're reasonably certain you're dealing with a non-defective HDD? You've checked it out with a HDD diagnostic program?

4. You're certain you've installed & connected the HDD properly in the system?

5. Since you obviously have a working PC system, have you connected the HDD as a secondary drive either internally or externally in the system? No problems?
