Windows 7 not recognizing verbatim external harddrive

Hello, why does windows 7 not recognize the verbatim external hardrive I have? I would like to do a back up.

If you go to the start menu and right click on computer and select manage. In the next Window select disk managment and in the screen that follows you should see the drive and what you have to do is initiate it and format and assign a drive letter.
