my laptop does not shut down.. i can only hibernate it.. and after starting again ,it does not ask password .. help!!

Solution
This is typically an ACPI/APMS problem. However, if it will hibernate, it should shut down. So, when you tell the system to shut down, what happens? Does it restart?

Also, what make/model of laptop are you using?

Usually failure to shut down (a system just restarts instead of shutting down) is an ACPI issue. Check BIOS and ensure ACPI is enabled, or try changing ACPI version if that's an option. Updating the BIOS also tends to fix this.

it was like no reaction when i asked it to shut down.. well it recovered from this problem on its own.. thanx :)
