Windows 7 OEM Upgrade to Windows 8

I have an old Hard drive that has an OEM version of Windows 7 and I would like to use it in my new PC but update to Windows 8 Retail. By doing so it would wipe the old os partition and install windows 8. would that work or do i need to buy a new hard drive?

Yep, that should work just fine as long as the drive is fully functional.

Windows 7 can be upgraded in-situ to Windows 8 subject to the following upgrade paths

Probably better to clean install 8 on to the drive by deleting all partitions, unless you have a particular reason to preserve anything on the drive?
