I'm buying a new laptop but want to keep on using the old Windows 7. Can I safely install Win7 on an Intel i7-5500U 2.40 GHz, without performance loses, driver issues, etc? As far as I know 4th and 5th gen should support Win7, but I'm not sure when it comes to i7 processors...

Solution
In all likelihood, the system will work with Win 7, even without official support. I wouldn't worry about this too much. If me, I would run Win 10 anyway. It is superior to Win 7 in every way and there is a very small learning curve moving from Win 7 to Win 10.

Thanks mate! I'm going for the ASUS F751LK-TY157H. All the specs are here:

Is there a way for me to check if the generic drivers are available online somewhere? I've tried it on a couple of sites now and found nothing. But I think that when I install Win7 and let it check for drivers it should do all the work by itself, right? Or is there a chance that a driver will be missing and I'll be forced to install Win10 in the end?

So in the end it means that the processor supports Windows 7, but the laptop doesn't? Can I still hope for this model to work normally with Win7 or does this definitely mean it's a no go?

I've checked the ASUS support site and it seems they only provide Win7 drivers for models with the i3 and i5 processors, and for the i7 models they only offer Win8 and Win10 drivers. Does this mean ASUS models with i7 don't support Win7, or can I still simply buy this laptop, install Win7, run the automatic driver setup and have good chances that it'll work?

Another punt for Win 10.
If you weren't aware, Win 10 can more or less be called 'Windows'. There will not be a Win 11.
Its an o/s that will be continually improved via system updates or fresh installations with latest release (available for download).
All that matters is that you have the licence.

Might as well take advantage of Windows' improvements now because you will have to eventually.
i.e. Get with the program and be done with it.
