Windows 7 opens windows all on it's own, as being remotely controlled, after awakening from sleep

I apologize if this is a duplicate, but I cannot find my previous submission, so here it is again:
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, windows-7 using external monitor, keyboard and mouse. Many times, not always, immediately after awakening from sleep, various windows open all by themselves, like some remote operator has hijacked my system. Skype can open, I close it, the control panel opens, some selection from within control panel opens, I close the windows, something else opens, I started google chrome and dozens of copies started to open. I forced the system down. After i come back up, I scan the system with Norton Internet Security but find nothing. My windows system is very up to date as is Norton. Internet searches have not provided any answers although I have found some references to mouse problems but it was not clear to me. I have run out of ideas other then trying anew mouse as a long shot fix. Anyone know what 's going on here?

Google chrome has an option in the settings to automatically open tabs. I suggest you look into these settings first.

Download and run malwarebytes in safe mode with networking.

Also,
Open cmd and type in sfc /scannow

Turn on your windows firewall as well

If this still continues to happens, your best bet is to reinstall windows altogether.

I ran the sfc /scannow and it did not come up with anything. I downloaded and ran malwarebytes free (but not in safe mode, I neglected that), and it found many items. I have since removed all such flagged items. It is difficult to know if the problem is solved because it is intermittent, many thanks for the advice.

The reason you should scan in safe mode, because it is much more effective at removing malware. Well if you decide to try it, let me know how it goes

Well, the problem has occurred again. Now I will attempt to get into safe mode and rerun the malewarebytes product.

What, if anything, is in your Startup folder?

Type msconfig in the run menu. Under the startup tab, is there anything starting with Windows that shouldn't be or you don't want?

I have no way to determine if the the problem would occur while in safe mode. It would be impossible for me to operate normally while in safe mode while waiting to see if this issue came up. After doing msconfig I reviewed the items in startup, there were many, but they all seemed to be legit. I have now replaced my wired mouse with a Microsoft wireless mouse and installed the latest intellipoint software/driver to be compatible with my win-7 64 bit system. Must just wait and see if the problem pursists.

Update: today is near midday on July 10 and since I changed my wired mouse to a wireless mouse with current driver software I have not had a recurrence of the problem. It's only been about 1 week, but I'm hopeful. If I get another hit I will update here. thanks to all.

Usually the simple things is what you want to try first. Issue with a mouse and keyboard? Then try a new mouse and keyboard, then start looking for viruses and other software issues if that does not fix it. Not go to the more unlikely and harder to do fix first.

Update: today is July 20 and after awakening my laptop from sleep it once again went nuts opening windows all by itself. So, the switch from my old wired mouse to the wireless mouse and up to date driver and software has not resolved the problem. I have never experienced anything like this before. I have repeatedly scanned my system with Malwarebytes and since purging everything identified the first run have not uncovered anything else. Hopefully one of you out there will have the definitive answer.

Can you expand on this a little? I am currently using an external keyboard, mouse connected via USB, and external monitor . Can you reference any past problem / resolution that details this issue? I had an unused wireless mouse in the desk drawer that I tried using, but I do not have extra keyboards lying around. I can buy one but hate to do so just as an experiment. I'm looking for a little more supporting doc, if you have it. Thanks for your help.

If an external mouse and keyboard are messing up, there could be something with the laptop keyboard and mouse causing this, therefore try a different laptop keyboard and touchpad/trackpiont. Or unhook them and see if the laptop boots without them. It's just basic troubleshooting. If it's not software, it's hardware, and since windows opening comes from key presses and mouse clicks you need to figure out what is doing that.
