Windows 7 or 8 for gaming?

About to buy a new operating system for new pc so windows 7 or 8? i do plan on playing a few older games. what do you guys think?

Win 8 and install classic start to make it look like windows 7 while having all features of win 8.

I was in this same dilemma a month ago. I am really familiar with Windows 7, but I've had Windows 8 on my daughter s computer for 9 months and I managed. Also second the Classic Shell.

When I made my new build, I went with Windows 8 and Classic Shell. I've seen a few articles pitting Windows 7 and 8 in games and either they tie or Windows 8 comes out on top by a small margin. Also MicroSoft improved boot times with Windows 8. They really are pretty close once you add Classic Shell and have it boot directly to the desktop.

Overall I'm pretty happy with my choice.

OP isn't upgrading his OS, he's building a new system and deciding what OS to use.

New directx is already out so win7 us already limited any ans can't make use of all its features. Buying 7 is a fools move its old and becoming outdated and with classic as stated you can make windows 8 look exactly the same as windows 7 and it doesnt use any of your system resources. Go with windows 8.

If you wish to play older games, Windows 7 can be set up as a Virtual PC where one can install Windows 98SE and Windows XP. A Virtual PC is having your Windows 7 PC with (other PC) inside it. I have a large new gaming pc with Windows 7 Ultimate and Virtual PC with Windows 98SE and Windows XP installed. Once set up, you select Virtual PC, then select the operating system (98SE or XP) that you wish to use. Close the one you have selected returns you back to Windows 7 Ultimate (in my case).
