It will probably be a long time before 7 won't be able to play a new title. There are just too many 7 machines in use for game makers to ignore that many potential customers.

Obviously Windows 8 will provide more future proofing than 7. But if you are the sort that is unable to learn something new, and prefer the comfort of familiarity, then stick with 7. Some users can't deal with anything newer than XP.
