Didn't know where to put this thread so i put it here, if it has to be moved so be it. My rig is less than a week old and I sometimes, at random times get unexpected system lock-ups, crashes then system reboots. My most recent was a BSOD when I was running Winamp playing music, Zombie Panic Source game through Steam client and Firefox playing a 2min video.

My specs:

OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Motherboard: Asus P7P55D Evo
CPU: Intel Core i7 860 @ 2.8GHz
RAM: OCZ Platinum Edition 4GB (2x2GB) Dual-Channel DDR3-1333MHz
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 7200rpm 640GB (boot-drive), Western Digital Caviar Blue 7200rpm 640GB (secondary)
GPU: Point of View GeForce 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3
Sound card: Creative SB X-Fi XtremeAudio 7.1channel
DVD Drives: LG SuperMulti DVD-RW SATA (primary), LG DVD-RW IDE drive (secondary)
PSU: OCZ ModXstream 700W
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212Plus

Note that I haven't overclocked, haven't played with tweaks or volts or anything. Everything is in stock settings. I ensure that i dont stress my PC very much (I'd run a maximum of 2 programs plus a Valve game, sometimes the game alone). From the event logs it shows that it's EventLog 6008, here are the details:

Just downloaded the latest drivers for my graphics card (which was released only 8 days after the one i currently have). I'll be back with more news to see if any improvement. In the meantime I really appreciate the help as to what the source of the problem is and how to tackle it. Many many thanks.

***EDIT: An update, found also ANOTHER event log in addition to the previous two i mentioned which caused my system to shutdown, this one is a Event41, Kernel-Power issue. Details as follows:

Again, the issue happens when I'm running games like Counter Strike Source, Zombie Panic Source and Left 4 Dead 2 via the Steam client whilst playing music from Winamp and running Firefox with 1 or 2 tabs open. Thanks for the help.

**Note that i added more detail to my system specs

Solution
the Ox7f 0x08 is a double fault likely due to memory corruption.
Check to be sure that your memory is set to the correct voltage and the timings are correct.
Run memtest and check each individually.

***EDIT2: Sorry for the double-posting, but i did read somewhere in Tomshardware forums that some motherboards and Windows 7 in particular dislike IDE devices, my secondary DVD-RW drive is IDE and not SATA, could that be a possible reason?

Bump thread. More info, last BSOD happened as a result of playing a video on my Firefox browser. I left CS Source run and play for nearly 4hrs straight and it didnt crash. Seems that the only culprit i can think of is videos being played on Firefox, and no it wasnt a youtube video

Like i said, I haven't tampered with tweaks or timings and whatnot. I DID however set my RAM to 1.65V in order for my Motherboard to properly recognize my 4GB RAM or else it will read as 1.99GB of RAM for some reason. I was told by the computer technician who helped me build my PC to do it this way or else i can't utilize up to 4GB RAM. That's about it, nothing more.

Double check the voltage at http://www.ocztechnology.com/
Do a search for the part number listed on your RAM. It should begin with OCZ3P1333. Most of the Platinum DDR3 sticks use 1.65V but some use 1.8V. If that is already set correctly, disable XMP in your bios. Unless I am missing something your RAM does not support this feature and I have read that this has worked for others.

^ They are running on the voltage that the website as well as the PC Technician stated which is 1.65v at default factory/stock timings which is CL 7-7-7-20 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS) @ 1333MHz stock/factory speeds.

Test the RAM

You may also need a bios update. Version 0606 for your motherboard adds "Support Low Voltage DRAM Module" which your RAM is at 1.65V. There are also later versions which "Improve memory compatability" and "Improve system stability".

Yes but there's ALWAYS a chance that updating the BIOS flash can cause my system to fail even more, beyond repair some would say. I tried the sevenforums.com and when i posted the diagnostics an Admin pointed out that i had a USB webcam driver that was 3 years old. However i got the latest driver build from the manufacturer's website which said that it's for Windows7. I uninstalled it and unplugged the device and ran the same programs when i encountered BSODs and so far no bad moments YET! I also uninstalled Firefox and use Google Chrome instead and played a few videos with no crashes or anything. I dont know what to expect tbh, I'll just have to see.

Hopefully that resolved your issue. Something else I did notice just now is that you are using a Creative SB X-Fi card. If you do a search you will see that there are some major issues with Creative's drivers for the X-Fi products on Windows 7. I never had mine cause a BSOD but it did regularly cause the system to hang. This occurred the mostly while gaming. Just something to keep in mind if you continue to have issues.

Well, i encountered a crash in CS Source and Zombie Panic Source. No BSOD, THANKFULLY. But then Windows Aero decided to turn itself off momentarily then back on again. but no BSODs today.

Monitor the memory usage of audiodg.exe. See if the usage climbs while using applications that use audio, itunes, teamspeak, ventrillo or most games will do this. If the memory usage climbs, shut down these applications and watch for the memory usage to drop. If I remember right the normal usage I saw was around 12-14 MB. I was able to easily get this up to 600 MB and that was without the system halting. I have no clue how high it got to do that.

To fix this it will depend on what you need. If you just use it for the audio output (music, games, movies whatever) then you can uninstall all of the creative software and drivers. Reboot and have Windows install it's own drivers and these will work fine.

This would not work for me. I have a X-Fi Titanium and I use the Flexjack for a microphone. From what I've seen this only works with the Creative drivers installed. I was able to do this but it is a bit more involved. If you need to know how I can post later when I am looking at the system.

My audiodg.exe is at roughly 10.2MB on idle, when i play music off winamp it goes to 16.9MB of memory usage. But no never 600MB. I use audio output for music, games (NO VoIP or in-game voice chats so no), movies. Thats about it. But I heard from an Admin in sevenforums.com that drivers given by Windows Update are the ones that cause problems and that i should get them from the manufacturer's website. Plus my PCI soundcard is OEM, didnt come with a CD, just got the latest drivers from the Creative site.

EDIT: While I'm running music from winamp playing a 160Kbps 44.1KHz 2hr mix set + running Zombie Panic Source via Steam my audiodg.exe usage goes to a maximum of 20.6MB of usage. nothing more.

I never had the issue with the Windows provided driver. The only time I could get it to do this was with the Creative drivers. If you search for this you will find that many, many others have the same issue with Creative drivers.

It sounds like that isn't your problem either. Have you checked your event logs for any errors around the time your system halts?

Try disabling EPU. I just did a quick search and found several folks are having system hang or BSOD due to this.

I also have 2 nvvsvc.exe processes running on my systems.

Spoke too soon I'm afraid. Thankfully no BSOD, but after 1hr of CS Source playtime the game crashed. Could this also be a problem from the Steam client on Windows7 users? If so, should an update address the issue and fix it?

When was the last BSOD? Was this before you uninstalled the webcam?

When you say CS Source crashed, do you mean that you crashed to desktop and everything else was fine? Was anything else affected by this? Have you been able to get this same thing to happen when using any other programs?

Yes the last BSOD was while the webcam driver was still installed. And by crash, the game freezes with sound repetition and just crashes to desktop and giving me a Windows Delivery Report window pop-up telling me the obvious "game has unexpectedly stopped responding." All other programs even the Steam client where the game is launched from are unaffected and still working.

I'm sorry it took so long to reply to this thread. truth is my PC failed to boot ever since i began testing RAMs (one stick at a time) to see whether or not i had faulty RAM. It was when i took out all the RAMs completely and put them back in again to continue testing it failed to boot giving out a continuous beep noise with no video output. Yes i made sure the RAMs were properly seated and i know that when this sound is heard it means that RAM is not detected. took it to a PC technician and he'll confirm whether or not my RAMs or motherboard (i hope it's not the latter) need RMAing or not, most likely either one or BOTH will require an exchange. In any case thank u all for ur help and concern, ur assistance in this matter was much appreciated!

should this thread be closed then so be it. Again, thank u kaa0653 and pat mcgroin for ur input!
