Hi,
I am having a very strange problem. I only just noticed it, but it could have been going on for a while.

Essential I boot Windows 7 Pro x 64 and if I immediately load task manager I see 80% memory usage.

I'm on 2x 4GB memory.

If I run RAMMAP and then choose to EMPTY the:
Working Set - drops 1% or so
System Working Set - drops about 1%
Modified Page List - drops 10%
Standby List - drops about 20%
Priority 0 - drops about 20%

I'm wondering what could be causing high memory usage? The processes for all users in taskmanager don't show anything odd... everything seems just fine.

I have the same processes running both before and after RAMMAP...

Any ideas? It looks like I should sit around 25%-30% RAM usage when idle.

Solution
Have you checked both the CPU and Memory columns on the Taskmanager?... in memory the normal figures are 3 to 4 en 5 digits... anything using 6 digits has to be a valid program, and anything not showling in the taskmanager has to be considered a possible malware/potential threat. You can also look in msconfig Start / Run or Search / type: MSCONFIG and press Enter.. in msdonfig click on the startup tab and disable programs that don't have to startup with Windows, and in the Services tab select Hide Windows Services, and disable third party services that don't necessarily have to start with Windows.

Next run a malware scanner like Malwarebytes Antimalware, also run the Antivirus if necessary, and install CCleaner to cleanup temp...

And before applying any of the previous, install a taskmanager substitute to better identify the process/es that consume 80% of your system resources. Such programs like Hijack Free, Security Taskmanager, and some others of the type in the linked websites.

Solution
Try a more informative program than Process Explorer... Security Taskmanager includes a column where it identifies each process with a red band that indicates the application's safety degree http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager. And Hijack free can detect hidden processes that would not appear on the taskmanager...

Something here may also help to further improve performance.
