hello all,

i am currently building a new system and had a question about windows 7 home premium. right now i have another computer which also runs windows 7 home premium, so if i use the same windows cd i used on the old pc with the same product key, will i still be able to get the automatic updates to windows on my new build if i use that same cd?

if not, i also have a laptop from work which i use daily and it had windows 7 enterprise, so if i use that product key, will i be able to get the updates on my new build? will i run into any problems at work regarding this issue?

any help would be appreciated

i see, thanks to all

but if i do use the enterprise key, could i update through online? or would that have to be done through the company?

not saying i will, just theoretical

Which bit of "it would be inappropriate (and againt Tom Hardware terms) to offer any support in your venture" are you having trouble understanding?

Cheers

Windows updates are only available to users with a legitimate copy of windows that has been properly activated.

As far as I know, every windows dvd, 32 or 64 bit is identical, differing only in the product key used to activate it.

You can only activate ONE pc with a given product key.

An exception is the family upgrade package which allows three activations of it's single product key.

As described in your op, no, you can't and shouldn't try to do what you proposed.
