Windows 7 Professional Black Screen After Log-in?

As the title says it, every time I login my desktop is blank and only shows my cursor. This problem only started today and it never happened the day before. The strange thing is that my desktop only comes back every time I manually disable then enable explorer.exe (or after 20 seconds, my desktop shows up), is there any possible fix to this?

Also I have to mention that this does not occur when I run it on safe mode, I have tried reinstalling my video driver (the latest Nvidia driver) but the problem has not been solved.

I do not think this is hardware related since this pc I built has been working perfectly for a year and I have not upgraded/removed any parts since the day I built it.

I know this may sound stupid but I disabled system restore so I don't have anything to restore it to....Please don't flame at me since this problem has given me enough heat.

The problem stems from a missing or incorrect key in regedit under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell. This antivirus has the ability to fix your issue. run the scan and see if it finds errors. Program has option to make repairs where needed once scan finishes. If this doesnt solve it I've got a couple other Ideas for you. System specs would be helpful

I did the scan and it showed no errors, I decided to restart my pc but it seemed like the problem got worst (I cannot access the task manager anymore). Strange thing is that this black screen still doesn't occur when I boot into safe-mode....Any ideas?

- Asus P8Z77-V deluxe
- Huntkey X7 900w PSU
- Samsung 840 pro 256gb (My OS, important programs and favorite games are installed here)
- Western digital 1tb 7200rpm 64 mb cache

Boot to safe mode>right click desktop>screen resolution and make sure that the picture of monitior has number 1 on it. if it is a 2 then set your default screen to monitor 2

If that is not it, Uninstall drivers for graphics card and try reinstalling newest drivers from nvidia webpage

If thats not it, go to device manager. under monitors unistall driver for generic PNP monitor then restart and let it automatically reconfigure device

Got 1 more but it can be really time consuming we will cross that bridge if we have to

Next step is to run a sfc /scannow this will scan windows files for missing or corrupt data and replace/repair its findings. to do this:
in search type CMD>right click CMD>run command prompt as admin > type "sfc /scannow" > hit enter

If this doesn't solve it the only other thing to do is insert and boot from OS disk> repair system > in cmd type "chkdsk /r/p"> hit enter
This can be a long process to run check disk and it should never be interrupted.

How do you see the monitor drivers in device manager?

search device manager>open manager>go to monitors> click little arrow to expand> right click generic PNP monitor>click uninstall

When I run cmd and type in sfc /scannow, I only get the message "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations" then nothing happens. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I am already running it as an admin.

I'll try doing so...Keeping my fingers crossed that this may be fixed without the need for a clean install. Thanks for the help and thanks for the effort for trying to help me in every possible way!

By the way will a system repair disk work as well? Or should I stick to using a factory Windows disk?

I already tried running chkdsk in system recovery options but it reports that there are no problems found....The problem still persists (Slow log-in, black screen unless ctrl-alt-esc and manually restarting explorer.exe), Is this a sign that I must do a clean install?
