Windows 7 RC after retail version comes out..

Alright, so i am debating whether or not i am going to download and use the Windows 7 RC over my current XP. I know for sure I am getting windows 7 retail when it comes out and was wondering if that means I would have to go back to windows xp (via clean install) then do an update to Windows 7 retail when it comes out? because that sounds like a pain. OR- will I just be able to update it straight from the RC? OR- will i have to buy some OEM version or somethin (not entirely sure what that is) and use that instead of update?

Many questions... very confusing.

Also I only plan on using 4gb RAM on my computer never more and never less so..... 32bit or 64bit?

Haha! Nice one! Seriously who doesnt know RC?! All forums and tech sites are all talking about it and there is someone who does not know it?
Say you are using 2gb of Ram on a modest pc, are there any real gains in switching to 64bit from 32 bit? Calling others Morons baselessly just shows the moron one is . . .

Some people will tell you not to bother with 64bit unless you have 4 gigs of ram or more, But I have noticed performance improvements with 2 gigs of ram in games by going 64bit. Crysis in 32bit vista, and Crysis in 64bit vista was definitely different. I recommend you go with x64 no matter what.

I don't think anybody gave a straight answer to this topic. I installed Windows 7 RC x64 on my wifes computer yesterday and it was a snap... took maybe 15 minutes and had every driver including the ati 4670 how cool is that?

I was just assuming that when windows 7 is actually released that there would be some kind of upgrade path out there for RC 1 users that didn't involve a format, and I was trying to find out the answer.


I laugh at people talking about maybe waiting a year after windows 7 is out for them to "get the bugs out". From everything I've seen... Windows 7 is basically Windows Vista SP2. Vista had some resistance from people who aren't smart enough to go into system configuration and turn off UAC.

And just to avoid posting in another thread.... I actually had this "IT Staffer" at an agency we deal with tell me they were going to move everything to windows 7 soon, and do we write our programs to be compatible with windows 7... he went on to try an explain to me that windows 7 is a mix between windows vista and xp in that it has all the good features of each of them.

At that point I wrote him off as a moron who probably shouldn't be in charge of purchasing software for the company he works for. I'm still sticking to my guns... If you bash windows vista, you're obviously computer illiterate.I

There are some limitations on the other hand. No data will be taken over. The installation will move the old data into the folder windows.old from where the files are accessible. Most programs on the other hand will not work unless they are portable.

It also has to be noted that a clean install at a later time requires a Windows XP or Windows Vista installation (or a new installation of a pre-RTM build of Windows 7)."

98 -> XP upgrade - Could install without 98, could use CD as "Proof" for upgrade
XP -> Vista - Required Previous version to be installed. HOWEVER ther was a "work-around. You could install Vista WITHOUT entering a Key, Then re-install WITH the Key.
NOTE THIS WOULD BE ILLEGAL without owning a qualifing copy of windows. (I received my FREE upgrade by purchasing XP Prof.)

NOT Recommending this to circumvent having a legal copy of previous version(s). But was a good way to keep old system on while checking out New. Ie Dual boot WITHOUT using a boot manage.

The question, Was this a goof that was corrected in Win 7, only time will tell.

ZipZoom what ever - If someone has a valid reason, or simply wishs not to use 64 Bit operating system - DOES NOT make them a moron (a classification assigned by IQ Level). In which case I have a feeling that more than a few can match or excede your IQ level.
On a personal note I do not like being called a moron!!!

YOU do NOT need to reinstall(as I just found out) after you do the install without doing the Product code! The system gives you 30 days to validate!


To Validate: goto SYSTEM in control panel and look in the bottom left corner! click on it and the Product screen will come up,just punch in the code and hit it!

Mine keeps telling me Someone is already using it( ME) of course! why cannot they check and realize it IS me!

Thinking Win 7 can be installed the same way!

ONE glearing thing I HAVE noticed:


MS in it,s infantile ways! ONE MUST USE "MSCONFIG" to activate the other core,s in that new 4 core CPU you just brought!

AS MS did not put anything in there to AUTO ACTIVATE to other cores, ONE HAS TO DO IT MANAUALY. And it keeps telling you that you have Turned of some startup programs! The problem is you cannot turn on the CORES in NORMAL mode!

MS needs to change this !

can i install both window xp and window 7 rc version on diffrent partition??/
my configuration is-
320 gb hard drive
intel core 2 duo ...2.67hz
2 gb ram
nvidia 8400 512mb

I would invest on a couple of newer drives though,they are VERY cheap right now! REASON! The newer 3gig SATA drives are coming and they want you to buy the OLD ones .....

$80 for a 1 TB drive,anint shabby!

I,ve done this already!(grin) XP 64 /Vista Home 64 /Win-7 64/ Ubuntu linux 64bit I have 3x 1 tb drives 2 internal 1 external backup!

I've been running 64 bit for about a year and a half and had no issues with any software at all. Anyone that installs 32 bit on a new computer is just a plain old moron.
By the way, what is Windows 7 RC? Is it a trial or something?

You call people who don't install 64-bit morons but you didn't know what RC was? Time for a self-check idiot.
