Windows 7 start button not working

Hello,
on windows 7 64 bit the start button(orb) does not load Right click does ok I have scanned for viruses and restarted in last good configuration When I reboot I get one go at the start button and it works but never again I use a Toshiba Qosmio laptop

could be a touchpad problem. have you tried an external mouse?

Does it work from the Windows key between Ctrl and ALT on your keyboard? If so then it must be your touchpad as nhasian suggests...

Thanks for replies, did a system restore to previous automatic windows update and problem appears to have resolved itself(cross fingers)
