Windows 7 starter versus XP Home Edition

Hello,
I am not at all techy. Going to buy a netbook for traveling. Most have Windows 7 Starter. Is XP Home better? Will use it for some documents, e-mails and net only.

Windows 7 is much better, once you get used to it you will love it.

Starter used to be a joke, but MS has removed some of the problems. If your just surfing or typing docs I doubt you'd notice a difference in either one. Get whats cheaper or what you know better.

Choose Windows 7 starter, it has better features and a better looking interface than Windows XP.

The three program limit has been lifted, I'm not sure if anything else has. What else is missing?

Starter Edition differs from Home Premium in a number of key ways: there's no Aero Glass, no Media Center, no DVD burning or playback, no Snipping Tool or Sticky Notes, and no Fast User Switching, among other restrictions...Heaven knows why, but Starter Edition users can't even change the desktop background (wallpaper).

The article does say that its now possible to change the background. But no Aero or built in DVD burning/playback might be an issue for some. Granted the needs are light in this case, but its not like he's considering XP home vs win 7 home premium.

Hello roadtripman,

I will tell you from first hand experience, all of my systems have been converted to Windows 7. I am not just saying it to say because I am affiliated with Microsoft. I can truly stand behind this product and tell you straight away it works very reliably, fast and extremely stable. The 64bit version is a real powerhouse as well.

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum specifically for IT Pros located here http://tinyurl.com/7jq7ps . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.

wow im the only one who's going to say xp its way better on sytems with just 1GB of ram..and you can..you gussed it chenge your desktop background..wow not your desktop background yes its true you can 😉

Thats not a bad point either. If you get a netbook with 1GB of ram, you might want to consider xp. I'd probably still get the win7 though. Support for XP is ending, and your not doing anything that would need more then 1GB of ram.
