I recently took apart an old hp computer to clean it out. While the hard drive was out i decided to connect it to another computer to load Windows 7 on it. I hooked everything back up and started the machine.

It booted just fine and started to load windows. Then i crashed, restarted, start to load, then crash. I launched startup repair and got this error message.

0x490

I hooked the hard drive back into my main computer and it booted just fine.

I hope you guys can help me thanks in advanced. I can provide more information if nessory.

You can't install Windows on one machine then move it to a different one. You've got to install it on the machine you intend to use it on (ie the old HP one).

As it's an old PC though, you first need to check on the HP website to see if they've got Windows 7 drivers for that model. If they haven't you are wasting your time because you'll find that some devices won't work properly (or won't work at all).

If they've got Vista drivers for it, you can try those on Windows 7. Even then some of them may not be compatible.
