Windows 7 Stuck at "Expanding Files"

Just picked up a retail copy. I tried to install it, and it gets stuck at 0% on the expanding files section. I've tried numerous hard drives, went through my mobo settings a lot and it still won't work. Any ideas?

Did you ever get an error code after a while?
Check the DVD, for scratches, etc.

+1 bad dvd , dvd -rom or memory problem.

Try installing with only one stick of ram

Nope it just loads forever, I have a kit, which to remove A1 or B1

Check the motherboard manual to see which slot to use for 1 stick of RAM.

Just specifies how to use 2, I put one in, trying it now.

The actual disk. The drive was fine.

Ummmmmm I've tried 3 discs a new one, an old one and my friends. 1 retail, two burnt. 2 OEM, one pre activated.

Product key is preinstalled.

It is not my copy, my friend brought this to me, the disc reads "Windows 7 Full Retail Pre-Activated)

Retail or not, I still believe it's a memory issue, all were perfectly clean copies and they all failed, I'm using a tested cd-dvd drive and I have no clue how to test the memory, the only computer I have is an all in one, unopenable.

Which is it?

I'm thinking this disk belongs to whatever PC it originally came with. You are almost certainly out of luck trying to install it on anything else.

I have 3 copies of windows, one that says full retail, 2 that is predownloaded on a DVD. By saying picked up, I meant from my friend. I have been working at this for a week.

Only an OEM/System Builder version will work. Other versions are tied to hardware and will not work.

I know this thread is a bit old but I am having the same problem and I have tried everything.
You guys are missing the point. He is saying his retail, and various other copies are all not working. Windows, in short, won't install no matter what disk he uses, so its not the actual disk.
TechAdvancment - did you try a single memory stick? Did you ever get it to work?

How long is it hanging? I just thought mine was stuck on an install but about 10 minutes later, I heard the drive stop and restart again, then the percentage started going up from there.

I ejected the DVD, cleaned it a bit, and after re-inserting it the process started to roll! I can't believe this solved it.

This fault is hard drive related.

I had this and changed to a new hard drive - no problem.

Ran old drive as an extra HDD on a PC and it would not do anything.

Had same issue. Replacing sata cable for dvd drive fixed for me.. just thought I'd share. Cheers!
