Windows 7 stuck in Basic theme for native resolution?

I have been downsampling from 1440p to 1080p (my native resolution) via Nvidia control panel on my monitor for the past several days to play a certain game in a higher resolution. I have not experienced any issues last night, when I attempted to revert to 1080p (which I usually do when done playing). The Windows 7 theme changed from Aero to Basic, and all of the icons were extremely pixelated.

It would not revert to aero until I changed back to 1440p (which I do not want to stay at for normal tasks). Other resolutions don't work either. Any suggestions?

Hello... load a restore point before this? I like to create a restore point every time I change settings or install anything into my OS... as a fast easy return point if anything goes wrong.
