I have been doing a lot of searching around and have found COUNTLESS forum threads about people having problems with their games.

First let me say: this is NOT related to Hard Drive Hitching, this is related to stuttering. I find many people on those forms would reply with "defrag the hard drive", which is not related to stuttering.

Ok, so reading thread after thread on this problem I have found something that is playing a huge roll into this. One of the biggest fixes I read about is "roll back to the older video drives . . ." and a lot of people said that worked, but it seemed for the majority this didn't work. It certainly didn't work for me.

My system:
OS: Windows 7 64bit Ult. Corporate Edition
CPU: Intel 3Ghz w/6Mb L2 Cache
MB: GA-EP45C-UD3R
Mem: 4Gb
Vid: Nvidia GForce 260

Alright, here is the deal. I too suffer these damn "micro" stutters. You notice them mostly when looking down on the ground in your games and moving forward as well walking forward and looking to the side at the same time. It's hella-annoying.

Time after time, fresh install, tweaking the OS out, changing this changing that. Even latest and greatest drivers.

Then I found out the most interesting thing about this problem: chipset drivers. Before I go into this I want to mention that in Windows XP Pro I do not have 'any' stuttering in my games whatsoever.

Ok, the big find in Windows 7 that's causing these stutters (from what I have researched) thus far. Windows 7 is not allowing me to actually install the chipset drivers. After downloading the drivers either from Intel or Gigabytes webiste neither will install. (yes, I do "Run as Administrator")

However the chipset drivers for the SATA hardware 'does' install, but the PCI bus and everything else, Windows 7 refuses to use those drives and instead only uses the Microsoft drivers.

I have NO doubt in my mind that this is why myself and thousands of others are having these stuttering problems due to the chipset drivers not being properly installed by the OS itself.

---------- Alright, so what can I do to get Windows 7 to use/install my Chipset drivers, and has anyone ever heard of this? I run the inf installer (run as administrator) and sure enough as I watch it install it only goes off and installs the SATA drivers and turns around and tells me it's completed. Going into Device Manager the PCI Bus and other motherboard drivers are using Microsoft drivers only. Oddest thing I have seen to date with an MS OS. 😱

If there is some way I can make Windows 7 use the inf chipset drivers (all of them) I think....I KNOW my stuttering issues will be gone.

BUT! Anyone else that suffers from these same problem: can you check the chipset drives via your Device Manager, too? I would like to know if those parts of the motherboard on your system too are using Microsoft drivers instead of the correct ones.

Any help to this would greatly be appreciated. 😉

Searching around on google with what I have described above, there is no one out there that has even found this problem.

So, there is no fix so I'm leaving Windows 7 and going back to Windows XP until 2014 comes...hopefully by then another OS has come out.

It's hard to believe that NO ONE single person on this planet has run into this issue with chipset drivers. Most bizarre.

yup, same fraking thing happens to me in Win7 (and yes in Win XP Pro SP2! (SP2 not 3!) works OK)...
the thing started in the first game i played under Win 7 Ultimate x86, which is Beowulf, idk what the f was going on then, and yup latest audio and video drivers (Realtek HD-audio & ATI HD 3650 AGP-video), and to mention no chipset drivers updates, just how Win 7 installed (and yeh good idea on that1 i'll def. try an update from official manuf.). now i get in the same thing... i'm "trying" to play Gears of War... runs great no problems at all under Win XP, but under Win 7 again those nasty stutters. IDK what's going on...
- now the fix that i tried on the 1st game (Beowulf): at that time i thought that its an audio problem, so again i tried latest drivers and all that... finally i stumbled on this setting under audio driver: lower the output sample rate (aka lowest for me was 16bits and 44,1khz)... that kinda helped but not that much... the game still stuttered... same fix i tried with GoW no luck again :/

Interesting. Could you check your Device Manager and see if our PCI Bus (and other motherboard devices) are using Microsoft drivers or not ?

Ah, yes you did mention that, my apologies. Can you go out and grab the chipset drivers for your motherboard and see what happens ?

Again, mine refuse to update everything and Windows 7 will only use the Microsoft drivers, which I am almost certain is the cause of the problem.

yes, i will try an update!
------

i ended up by updating the BIOS, as there is no "chipset driver" available at ASRock (thats the mobo), only some network drivers and audio drivers.

btw what audio device do u have?

I am using a Creative Fatal1ty Champion SC, I really enjoy it a lot.

Hey you'll. I am having the exact problem you guys are having.

I messed up my system so bad with chipset and video card driver installs that I had to reinstall...
My chipset drivers never seemed to install correctly and when they did install I only did with errors..

I read somewhere that It works to disable microsoft High definition driver.I'm not sure it it works.

I don't have sound to the front so I know it isn't installed correctly and I do know my system is using the Microsoft Driver instead of the Realtek Driver....strange.

I know for a fact that my games ran perfectly fine with xp...not so with Windows 7 64bit though.

Ok folks, update to this but nothing sadly has changed but a new system:

New system:

OS: Windows 7 64bit
CPU: Intel i7 930 (2.8Ghz w/4Cores and 8Threads)
Vid: Dual GeForce 275 SLI
Mem: 6GB Triple Channel Patriot Memory
MB: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
HD: Kingstone SSD 64GB

I tried the Vsync again and it seemed to be better but still not smooth like it was in Windows XP. I did manage to get all of the .inf motherboard drivers installed by updating them manually one by one.

This really sucks 🙁 I miss Vsync SO bad.

Not sure what that tool is supposed to do but it told me I had GeForce 275 video cards, an intel onboard sound card, and a gigabyte network card. It told me nothing about my mb drivers, which didn't surprise me as Intel and MS have it worked out that in Windows 7 MS will not allow you to install the drives from Intel unless you manually install them yourself.

To be honest we should close out this thread, there is simply no fix for this and Microsoft will not allow Vsync ever again on their OS. We're just beating a dead horse :??:

Did you ever make any progress on this? I am having problems with V-Sync and Win7 when gaming. Been pissing me off since I built this new pc and finally moved from XP, I dont wanna go back to XP 🙁

I kinda fixed it: I went to Windows XP 64bit.

Neither the Video Card manufactures and Microsoft are standing up to take blame and fixing it, and never will.

In Windows 7 the DirectX I believe is the culprit, but not 100% sure. While in Win7 the DirectX 10/11 runs in backward compatibility causing the stutters, as games that run in D9 never have these issues.

I love Windows 7, but this will never be fixed by either side that's causing the issue.

We're SOL

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/Realtek_Audio_V6015473_vista.zip

try out this...download the file,
[1] then go to my computer>properties>device manager.
[2] then right click your present audio driver and select 'update driver software'
[3] select browse my computer fo driver software
[4] then choose 'Realtek_Audio_V6015473_vista\Audio\driver\Vista'. Vista64 for 64-bit

system should install these drivers. If it does u should have no more problems.

NOTE: this is for windows 7, don't knw if wll work on Vista

I think you have replied to the wrong post, because this has nothing to do with game studdering. Plus, I don't use the onboard sound card, as they're all crap.

Okay so, Ive got this thing. An external HDD over USB 3.0 but the host controller doesnt install properly, I formatted my drives and all and it still doesnt detect my external HDD over USB 3.0.
What I do is press F8 while my PC boots up and choose "disable driver signature enforcement" (should be at the bottom). You could try choosing that option and then boot to windows and install the chipset drivers (as admin of course) from there. If the stutters are gone great, but be sure to test this out. What I mean by that is, that you should restart your system and this time let it boot without pressing F8.

If the stutters are gone great, if they are not, then every time you boot your PC you should choose that option (F8-->"disable driver signature enforcement").

Hope it helps you
