Windows 7 to Windows 8

I have windows 7 and I have a disc version of windows 8. Can I keep the date from 7?

Yes you can keep all your data, when you install don't format the drive, and it will put all your files in a folder called windows.old where you can access them from the new OS.

I think it will copy the programs directory into the windows.old folder

If you have the upgrade version of W8 you will be able to choose Upgrade as opposed to Custom Install and keep everything...
