Trying to run Windows 7 on new platforms opens the door to many problems besides not receiving patches. You only receive critical security updates with Windows update. You also will not have USB drivers and you will have to do workarounds when you first install the OS to get your USB mouse and keyboard working. You also will have no chipset drivers for Windows 7 on any Ryzen motherboard you pick. In 2 years you no longer will recieve even critical patches on Windows 7 except in special cases.
The smart thing to do would be to get Ryzen 3 and 8GB of RAM with Windows 10. If you have any issues with particular programs and compatibility mode doesn't work, you could install Windows 7 into a virtual machine using VirtualBox or dual boot. Ryzen 3 is more than capable of handing Windows 10 and any normal programs you want to run. Most exe programs that run on 7 should also run on 10.
Basically what I am trying to understand is that, if I disable Automatic Updates and just manually download handful or critical updates (For example for Meltdown & Spectre or update against WannaCry) would the standalone msi installer run on Windows 7 on AMD or would it still shout that it's unsupported platform.
I certainly value the opinion as expressed by you and others that I should upgrade to Windows 10. However for now at least for some more time I wish to stick with Windows 7. That's why I did not even availed free upgrade to Windows 10 after it was released.
Fortunately most AM4 motherboard manufacturers have provided a utility that integrates USB and NVMe drivers into the Windows 7 installer. So I am hoping that it should not give any hangs or issues during install.
Thanks.
