Hello,
I have an acer aspire 5100 laptop, i recently installed windows 7, I got everything working except for my dvd. It is an PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K16RS ATA, the message I get say's drivers disabled due to imcompatabilty. Can you help me.

Solution
I think you have a driver problem, not a hardware problem.
I have the Pioneer BD-RW BDR-205.
The DVD/CD-ROM driver is called cdrom.sys
The folder is correct, but the file name is wrong.
I think you have a nasty file there.

Check the C:\Windows\system32\drivers folder for the cdrom.sys file.
If you have it, then delete the UBHelper.sys file and reboot.
You want the DVD device to show the cdrom.sys driver.

By the way, do you have anti virus software installed?

I deleted the drivers, and let windows reinstall them, and still the same error, that it is disabled because it will cause instability. I looked at driver details and the one blocked says C:\Windows\system32\drivers\UBHelper.sys
How hard is it to install a new dvd hardward?

Thank you, I got my dvd working, now i have a new problem. last month i upgraded to 4 gigs of ram, when I got the dvd working, I upgraded my window 7 to 64 bit, I was told to do this by the guy who installed my ram. Now windows says I have 10 GB free out of 52.1 GB, and I lost all my folders on the computer. Is there a way to get more memory.

Way wrong answer....
Try the following MS KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Try following the steps for Windows XP/Vista which may also work for Windows 7.

The UBHelper.sys is a driver for NTI software, such as NTI CD & DVD-Maker.

Do you have any such NTI software listed in your uninstaller?
