Windows 7 - Upgrade or Custom Install?

I tend to do custom installs since when I get around to upgrading a system's OS, it's usually due for a reformat and fresh install anyway. It is the nature of all windows OSes to accumulate crap in the registry over time, so I go with Custom when convenient.

Also on the upgrade, anytime you are required to do a fresh install, you'll have to install Vista first than do the upgrade install... It is just a pain to have to install two OS to get the PC to work.

The reason I ask is the system I built is only 9 months old. So I think I can get away with an upgrade.

Yeah, you'll be okay with an upgrade but think long run... do you want to be reinstalling Vista, than Win 7 every 6 to 9 months for a fresh install? A fresh install every 6 to 9 months is recommended by most to keep your computer running fast & smooth?

There is no upgrade version for Windows 7.

You actually get both.
You can do an upgrade or custom.

Are you sure you have to have the old OS intalled or reinstalled?

If you reinstall your OS, and all you have is an upgrade disc, yes, you'll have to install vista first, then windows7.

And I can do either an upgrade or a Custom install with this.

So If I do an upgrade now I can decide to do a full next time and not have to preinstall vista again.

Yes. Though, keep in mind, it's an OEM version. You may have to call microsoft to get it activated after the 1st install.
