Windows 7 Will Not Stop Automatically Updating

Hello all, I am new to this Forum.

I have looked all over online and couldn't find the answer to my problem so I thought I'd start here.

Every computer I've had I'd turn off Windows Updates, tried different settings (check but don't install / don't check for updates) and the computers would still automatically update every now and then.

I am getting really frustrated and was hoping someone could help find an answer.
I'm getting to the point where I'm wanting to go through the windows directory and try deleting anything that has to do with the automatic updates regardless of the consequence.

ive had no trouble going into windows update settings and selecting to "never check for updates".the only other box i have checked is to give me updates for ms products and check for new optional ms software when i update windows.once i did this ive never had it update by itself.
