I went on vacation for a week, came back and my PC wont boot. "cannot open volume for direct access". I tried booting in safe mode, it got stick at avgardisk.sys. I took the hard drive out and connected it to my laptop via EZ-CONNECT. It won't read it, "E:/ is not acessable". I downloaded EaseUS data recovery software and it is scanning the drive right now (going on 10 hours now, it's a 2 terabite drive). Is this a bad harddrive or just some corrupt files on the HD? I'm thinking that if EaseUS is reading the HD, it is physically OK. Will EaseUS fix the HD or should I be buying a new one?

Sounds like a corrupted hard drive. Whether its the files part of the hard drive or the OS part, I would definitely still replace it as it is now considered unreliable, and if you managed to recover your files you wouldn't want it to happen again.

Also, the older the hard drive the increased likelihood of it corrupting. If your hard drive is a few years old then I would think that is what has happened.
